Destin packs a lot of vacation into a few miles of coast, and where you stay shapes how a sitter gets to you:

• Holiday Isle. The strip of high-rise and low-rise condos at the west end of town, between the Gulf and the harbor near Norriego Point. Give us the building name and unit, and tell us which lot guests use.
• The Destin Harbor and HarborWalk Village. Condo towers and resort rooms right on the boardwalk. Evenings here are busy, so let your sitter know about parking garages or valet.
• Crystal Beach. Beach houses and condos on the east side of town off Scenic Highway 98, past Henderson Beach State Park. Lots of houses look alike at night, so a porch light and the house name help.
• Along Scenic 98 and Old Highway 98. Resorts, gated townhome communities, and rentals tucked between the beach and Destin Commons. Gated spots need your sitter's name at the gate.

What Destin parents book a sitter for

Destin calls itself the World's Luckiest Fishing Village, and a full-day or half-day charter is often too long for little ones. Parents book a sitter for the charter, for a pontoon trip to Crab Island, or for a sunset dolphin cruise out of the harbor. The other big one is dinner: the harbor restaurants and the steakhouses along Highway 98 are a lot more relaxing without a toddler under the table.

Families also book a sitter for a round of golf, a spa appointment, or simply a quiet evening on the balcony after a long beach day while the kids are tucked in by someone else.

Timing a Destin booking

Destin is at its busiest during spring break, in summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and on holiday weeks. Traffic on Highway 98 and over the Marler Bridge can back up in the evening, so we plan sitter arrival times with that in mind. Tell us your dinner reservation time and we'll aim to have your sitter there early enough for a relaxed handoff.

If you're coming in the quieter months, short-notice requests are easier to fill, but it still pays to call or text as soon as you know your plans.

• Leave a parking pass if your building requires one, or tell us where visitors can park
• Show the sitter the balcony lock and keep the balcony door locked after dark
• Point out the pool rules if your building has them, even if no one is swimming tonight
• Leave the address and unit number by the door in case the sitter needs to give it to anyone
