Navarre Beach sits on Santa Rosa Island across the Navarre Beach Causeway, and it's known as a calmer, family-friendly alternative to the bigger beach towns. Condo buildings and rental homes line the island, with the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier reaching far out into the Gulf and the undeveloped Gulf Islands National Seashore stretching west toward Pensacola Beach. On the mainland, Navarre runs along Highway 98 and the Santa Rosa Sound, with Navarre Park and the waterfront at its center, and neighborhoods spread north into Holley-Navarre. It's a growing community with a lot of young families and a lot of military households: Hurlburt Field is a short drive east, Eglin AFB is beyond it, and NAS Whiting Field is to the north in Milton.
