Okaloosa Island: beach hotels and condos
Okaloosa Island is the stretch of beach between Fort Walton Beach and Destin, across the Brooks Bridge from downtown. It's lined with beach hotels, condo towers and resorts, and it's home to the Okaloosa Island Pier, the Boardwalk, and the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. It's a favorite with families because everything is close.
For island stays, give us your hotel or condo name and room or unit number, and tell the front desk that a sitter is coming up. If your building has a parking pass, leave it at the desk.
Fort Walton Beach families
Fort Walton Beach itself is a hometown for a lot of families, many of them connected to Hurlburt Field and Eglin AFB. Local parents book us for a date night downtown, a work dinner, a school event, or just a few hours to run errands without the kids. Your sitter comes to your home and follows the routine you already have.
Because Fort Walton Beach is right next to our home base in Shalimar, it's one of the easiest places for us to staff, including on shorter notice when sitters are free.
Ideas for an evening out
- Dinner on the Okaloosa Island Boardwalk and a walk out on the pier at sunset
- Downtown Fort Walton Beach along Miracle Strip Parkway and the Landing park on the Sound
- A dolphin or sunset cruise from the Destin side of the bridge
- A squadron function, ball, or holiday party; see military family babysitting
- A quiet dinner for two while a sitter handles bath and bedtime; see date-night babysitters
Handy tips for island hotels
- Leave a key card at the front desk if the elevator or your floor needs one
- Tell your sitter where the hotel's guest parking is
- Keep balcony doors locked once it's dark
- Tell your Angel ahead of time if the kids may use the pool or beach with the sitter; otherwise put the beach toys away for a calm evening in
If the kids had a full day at the Gulfarium or on the beach, plan an early bedtime. Your sitter will follow the plan you leave.
